In the Warm California Sun
I am on reprieve /lacking my joie de vivre /missing my gay Paris /in this desert dry/…Lord I don’t know if I’ll be back again -The Decemberists
I can’t believe that I have been back in California for almost a week (okay the first few days were awful with the time change and jet lag hitting me worse than ever before). I have since spent my days eating amazing California produce and enjoying the sunshine or I sort through photos to edit and print and watch movies like Paris, Je t’aime (a beautiful set of shorts dedicated to the city of light and love) and reminisce.
I’ve also decided that I will be exploring some of the local scenery (i.e. going to the lake and river and being outdoors more). So yesterday I went to the farmer’s market near my house. The produce there is amazing and the best part, from a local and environmental perspective, is that it is grown by Northern Californian farmers of which quite a few are organic:
There are some interesting unique produce which you won’t find in the grocery store. From breeds of eggplant to tomatoes that have interesting descriptions as either fruity flavored or smokey:
If that’s not your thing there were piles of regular ones:
And there are plenty of other fruits and veggies:
I think I might bake something if it’s not too hot outside. Good luck to everyone starting their week tomorrow.
